Herbie

I was interested in this story about an elm tree that was recently cut down. The tree is thought to be 212 years old.

That means Herbie was born around the time the US Constitution was in high school.

Think of all this tree saw in its life--it makes me stop and think about whether a tree has at least some level of consciousness--how the hell else could it just randomly stay alive for that long?
